Luke Sheafer of Me Like Bees took some time to answer questions about the band origins, their upcoming release, and more. Check out the interview below!
Did you all live in Joplin when you met and decided to start the band?
We were all in Joplin when the band was formed, but Pete and I met while playing football together in KC. We started the band after college in Joplin.
What’s the music scene like there?
We have a solid music scene in Joplin. Check out some of these Joplin artists when you have a chance: The Too’s, Sardis, TotoJojo, Carter Hulsey, Never Shout Never.
For the new EP, you worked with John Feldmann, what was that like?
It was a truly wonderful experience and privilege to work with Feldy. He is a master in songwriting, and is really good at slipping in dirty jokes subtly in the middle of a sentence.
You guys are in Austin during SXSW, what are your goals while you’re there? Make new contacts, meet new fans, etc?
We are here right now! It can feel like a crapshoot playing shows during SXSW, but just like anything you make most of the opportunities you get. Our goals never really change because everything in life is about making relationships with people. I don’t know any other way to do business and I wouldn’t want to.
Four songs might not seem long enough for fans. Do you have plans to follow up with more music either this year or early next year?
We are writing our second full length right now! We will try to get in the studio at the end of this year.
What else can we expect from you in 2016?
We’ll be on the road this summer playing festivals and shows.
Thanks for your time! Where can our readers keep up with you?
