Guy Valarino took some time to answer questions about his seven year gap in releases, what the music scene is like in the UK, and more. You can also catch him on tour in the UK and you can find those dates here. Check out the interview below.
Can you give our readers a little background on where you’re from and how you got into music?
I’m originally from Gibraltar (The Rock of Gibraltar) which is a small British overseas territory in southern Iberia. I first got into music through listening to local radio and British Forces Radio in Gibraltar as well as my mothers cassette collection which she’d play in the car.
You had seven years between EP releases, what were you working on in that time?
Playing as many live gigs as possible on the unsigned live scene in London, teaching myself to use recording software and working on my writing.
What the indie scene like in London right now?
It’s alive and kicking as people want to hear the raw honesty that indie music brings, it’s real. There are loads of new bands and artists on the indie scene making amazing music.
A lot of great music comes out of the UK, can you give us your top three artists from there right now?
– James Bay
– The Wholls
Do you have plans to bring your music to the States?
Absolutely! When I was playing my Couch Surf Tour I played two living room gigs and a number of open mic nights in San Diego and I loved every minute of it! Can’t wait to come back and play some more gigs.
What can we expect to see from you in 2016?
Looking to play a UK university tour as well as a run of house concerts and hoping to have the album in the works by the end of the summer.
Where can we find you on social media?
