Check out The Bergamot’s favorite songs of 2015 below. The duo was kind enough to give us a little explanation as to why each of these songs was one of their favorites and you can listen to them all in a playlist at the end!
Glass Animals – “Black Mambo”
We get super pumped when we listen to this track. We don’t usually get an instantaneous reaction to songs – but this one laid us out flat. Love it.
Modest Mouse – “The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box”
Classic Modest Mouse. We just felt like they really channeled some of their best work on this track. Takes us back, but with a twist. We dig.
Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats – “S.O.B.”
We remember seeing Nathaniel for the first time at SXSW in 2011 at a Party with Paste Magazine. We’ve followed him ever since. Glad to see he has hit it big with this track – so happy for him!
Wilco – “Taste the Ceiling”
We love all things Wilco. We saved a street dog and named him “Wilco”. Guilty. But this track reminds us of some vintage Wilco shit – our favorites. Somewhere between Summerteeth and A Ghost is Born. This has all the penultimate Wilco signatures sonically – a home run.
Sufjan Stevens – “Should Have Known Better”
Growing up in the Midwest we felt like Sufjan was always the Chosen One. This song returns him to his acoustic sound that we grew up loving. Pure lyrical mastery – nuff said.
Belle and Sebastian – “The Party Line”
Belle and Sebastian make some of the happiest freaking music. We draw a lot of inspiration from them. Love love love.
Speedy Ortiz – “Raising the Skate”
Reminds me of our youth. Growing up loving Nirvana and the rock sound that ensued. Speedy Ortiz seems to have some of that early 90’s angst.
Wavves – “Way too Much”
This reminds us a lot of one of our favorite bands “12 Rods”, so we connected with the track immediately. It feels right in so many ways.
Sean Rowe – “Hold On”
This song is by Neko Case and The Sadies – but released as an acoustic recording by Sean in 2015. We both really love Sean. Jillian had the chance to meet Sean at a house party here in Brooklyn – and has loved his music ever since.
Chvrches – “Leave a Trace”
Really love Lauren Mayberry. She is fantastic! This song reeks of the 80’s in the most amazing way – and we love it.
