Near Mint was started by James Cassar and Corey Purvis. James is involved with far too many things to start listing, including kindly writing here once in a while. Corey does design work for the label and outside of the label, as well. The two don’t live in the same state, but find a way to may the label partnership work and it has definitely been working well. The label has done digital releases, cassettes, and vinyl now. Some releases are reissues, while others are new releases from bands like The Obsessives. I wanted to do a label spotlight on Near Mint because I’ve enjoyed what they’ve been doing and they’ve accomplished a lot in not a whole lot of time.
Microwave – Stovall (Pre-order)
Anthony Jay Sanders / Cameron Boucher – Fear Mint Vol. 2 (Digital)
Marietta – As It Were (Cassette)
Modern Baseball – Sports (Tapes, $1 from every tape sold will be donated to LIFT Communities)
Anthony Jay Sanders is one of the latest signings for Near Mint. He fronts The Island of Misfit Toys on Broken World Media. His first release with Near Mint will be Fear Mint Vol. 2 with Cameron Boucher. Check out his song “The Wild Things” below.
The Obsessives are the latest sensation of the pop punk world. The recent high school grad released Heck No, Nancy via the label and gained a lot of attention. This marked the first release on vinyl for the band and the label. I can’t wait to get my copy, but in the meantime, listen to “Camping” and you’ll understand what makes this band a joy to listen to.
Broken Beak features members of Steady Hands and is a band that’s on the rise. Jake Ewald of Modern Baseball fame recorded their EP, Curse Burner, at Drexel University. With so many great names associated with this project, it’s hard not to love it. Check out “Book of Smoke” to close out our label spotlight on Near Mint. I look forward to seeing what comes next for the label.
