Review: Kelley Plante – Ooh La La

by Deanna Chapman

Ooh La La is the brand new EP from my friend, Kelley Plante (and there’s you disclaimer in case this review seems biased). It’s jam-packed with some funky blues vibes and hooks you’ll have stuck in your head for days. I think the most notable song on the EP is actually the opener, “Unpredictable.” I had heard essentially a shell of this song when I happened to be in a songwriting class with Kelley. That moment, I knew it could turn into something great, and that’s exactly what I did. If you don’t have “Boom, crash, bam//Ooh la la and oh hot damn!” stuck in your head for days, you may be doing something wrong.

Ladies, do yourselves a favor and relish in “Stick To Your Gun.” You’ll know exactly why I’m saying this as soon as you hear the lyrics. This is probably my second favorite song off the EP. Kelley does a good job of writing melodies and making the lyrics nice and easy to remember. The whole EP has a ton of personnel on it and you can tell that just from the plethora of instruments you hear in each of the five songs. You know you’re getting that blues vibe when you add in some sax, trombone, and trumpet. Basically what I’m saying is, if this is your kind of music, this EP is a must listen. And no, I’m not saying that just because I know Kelley and how hard she works. She has talent and I wouldn’t say otherwise if I didn’t believe it. So, what are you waiting for? It’s my impression that you have an EP to go listen to and I’ll even make it easy for you. You can listen to it right here.
